About the Author
Sara Roy is a Senior Research Scholar at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Harvard University. A distinguished political economist, she has written extensively on the Palestinian economy and has documented over the last three decades. She is the author of The Gaza Strip: The Political Economy of De-development (1995, 2001), The Gaza Strip Survey (1986); editor of The Economics of Middle East Peace: A Reassessment (1999); and is currently completing Political Islam in Palestine: From Extremism to Civism.

Excellent

This is one of the best books available on the nature of the Isael/Palestine conflict. Her analysis of the "peace process" as a (largely successful, for now) attempt to move analysis out of the framework of international law and into the frame of pure power relations is essential. The writing is characterized throughout by a convincing mixture of personal and moral reflection with hard empirical analysis. Professor Roy writes with rare moral and intellectual authority, and it's a pity that books like this remain unread by those responsible for making policy.

Failing Peace continues to Fail

Sara Roy provides an irrefutable dissection of why the Oslo "peace" process failed and actually made things worse not only in Gaza where she has special expertise, but in the 1967 Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories in general. What is particularly important about Roy's book is the fact that she reminds the reader of what the role of the intellectual is and must be - i.e., rooted in critical thought and humanism - the historical quest of moral philosophy. That is her personal context. She also insists on historical factual context for her analysis. Decrying those who describe Oslo's failure ahistorically as though there were no pre-conditons or issues and no facts on the ground which the terms of Oslo could employ to worsen conditions, Roy's work puts in stark relief the sham that was Oslo. Her conclusions stem from her meticulous research, not from any ideological paradigm.

This book is not only important for scholars of the Israel/Palestine conflict, but it is also the best book for university courses on the conflict. Students will gain a clear understanding of the issues involved in the conflict and why the structure and terms of Oslo were doomed to failure. They will also gain the dual context she presents for dissecting the present situation and "peace" efforts, valuable in and of itself.

This collection of Roy's essays chronicling the period from the 1967 Israeli occupation of Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem has stood the test of time. She offers the readers a unique chronicle of the human, social and political economy results from the terms of Oslo. This should be on anyone's reading list who is concerned about the tragedy of the Israel/Palestine conflict for both Israeli Jews and Palestinians.

Arthur Winter received his PhD in chemistry from the University of Maryland. He is the creator of the popular Organic Chemistry Help! Excellent Ice Breaker

This is an extremely well done introduction to ochem.I've read a lot of Dummies books, and this is one of the best written. No small feat considering people with PhDs in the hard sciences are challenged to teach at an introductory level.

It's quite simple, so of limited use by the end of the first semester of a 2 semester ochem series. Despite what the title suggests, it's got a brief explanation of the material, and then some questions. It's not strictly a workbook.

I would strongly suggest getting it just before going into ochem to get a brief overview, and by the end of the first semester you'll see where things are heading in the 2nd semester. The practice questions are also good for the level of the book.

Don't expect to get much out of this book if you are at the end of the year and looking for more practice questions. It's too basic for that.

if you are taking organic class and nothing make sence to you, get this book. It helped me a lot to understand the basic thought on Organic Chem. You may still need to read your text book for details specially if your teacher is very much deteil oriented like mine.

'Organic Chemistry II For Dummies'

I read most of the ratings for these, and then purchased them for my daughter for her second semester organic chemistry, since the first semester was such a struggle for her. She says they are helpful, and she also uses them as a reference to get a perspective on a topic that is different than what the professor may have presented in class. I know it was a gamble when I purchased them if she would use them at all, so I was pleased that she does and so it was worth it!

About the Author
Brent E. Turvey spent his first years in college on a pre-med track only to change his course of study once his true interests took hold. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Portland State University in Psychology, with an emphasis on Forensic Psychology, and an additional Bachelor of Science degree in History. He went on to receive his Masters of Science in Forensic Science after studying at the University of New Haven, in West Haven, Connecticut.

Since graduating in 1996, Brent has consulted with many agencies, attorneys, and police departments in the United States, Australia, China, Canada, Barbados and Korea on a range of rapes, homicides, and serial/ multiple rape/ death cases, as a forensic scientist and criminal profiler. He has also been court qualified as an expert in the areas of criminal profiling, forensic science, victimology, and crime reconstruction. In August of 2002, he was invited by the Chinese People's Police Security University (CPPSU) in Beijing to lecture before groups of detectives at the Beijing, Wuhan, Hanzou, and Shanghai police bureaus. In 2005, he was invited back to China again, to lecture at the CPPSU, and to the police in Beijing and Xian - after the translation of the 2nd edition of his text into Chinese for the University. In 2007, he was invited to lecture at the 1st Behavioral Sciences Conference at the Home Team (Police) Academy in Singapore, where he also provided training to their Behavioral Science Unit. In 2012 Brent completed his PhD in Criminology from Bond University in Gold Coast, Australia.

He is the author of Criminal Profiling: An Introduction to Behavioral Evidence Analysis, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Editions (1999, 2002, 2008, 2011); co- author of the Rape Investigation Handbook, 1st and 2nd Editions (2004, 2011), Crime Reconstruction 1st and 2nd Editions (2006, 2011), Forensic Victimology (2008) and Forensic Fraud (2013) - all with Elsevier Science. He is currently a full partner, Forensic Scientist, Criminal Profiler, and Instructor with Forensic Solutions, LLC, and an Adjunct Professor of Justice Studies at Oklahoma City University. This book is very informative and easy to read. If you can find it used and in good condition - it's worth buying. If you are a student or in law enforcement, it's a must! I think the resell value holds well due to the wealth of knowledge you can find in this book. If you're a CSI fan - I think it is safe to say, it's a very interesting read. It's all real and you will find 'graphic' photos - if you're not able to handle this - I suggest you don't purchase it. There is alot to absorb and I wouldn't call it light reading.

Great - but must WARN you...

I just received this book yesterday and I've been thumbing through pages and really enjoying the information and things I've found. However, when I was reading reviews here before it was purchased, I never found anyone warning about the content. I've read lots of John Douglas books, but he's never actually put photos in his books that people would call disturbing. This book, on the other hand, has some SERIOUSLY disturbing pictures in it. If you think you really want to go into the field of criminal profiling and that you're really ready to see these pictures, then fine - get it. But I can guarantee you that if you're still not sure about this career, I would recommend buying a much tamer book on profiling. This book is for those who are seriously considering doing this, or for those who really are on the road to having careers in this area. The pictures really took me by surprise, and coincidentally gave me a very restless night. I wasn't prepared for such images! So just a warning: It's a great and very insightful book, but if you have a weak stomach, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT get this book. If you really think you can handle the content, it is a wonderful book that will teach you lots.

This is the second novel by Balzac I have read (Old Goriot the first) and I am quickly becoming a fan. I am looking forward to reading Cousin Bette. I agree with another reviewer who found it difficult to believe that Eugenie could fall so deeply in love with her cousin after one meeting. One might also wonder why the book was titled after Eugenie since the majority of the novel focused on her disgustingly greedy father. Eugnie did not become the main character until the last fourth of the novel. That aside, this is a good story and I enthusiastically recommend it.

I don't know how many folks read Balzac these days. If one wanted to try one of his novels, this would be the one to try. It is not difficult to read and is not long. I have read a number of his novels and this was one of the best. If you do not care for this book, there is probably little point in trying the others.

poor book

I thought this book was written by professionals, there was no name of author on the book, and I found that it was written in a very poor sequence, many spelling mistakes, and poorly finished book. I thought it can be a good reference book, but I was disappointed when I saw the content quality. I hope that the authors have a second look at the book and withdraw it from the market, rewrite it then put it back on the market. The authors took advantage of the need of the candidates who are going for the PEBC exam; their need will push them to buy the book without knowing the quality of the content. In conclusion this is a low quality book

Surprized Amazon Stocks This "BooK"

Generally, I would refrain from writing a review if my consideration is that a material does not stand up too well among its peers. After a careful thought, I believe I owe it to would-be consumers and the vendor to I allow myself this exception because this Kruger's work is a rip off.
First, the material is haphazardly assembled and the layout is bad. In some places the language used does not clearly convey the information needed; akin to a student hurriedly taking a lecture notes with the intent of filling in the incomplete portion with some unwritten understanding he or she already has. The next source of irk is the size of the book. For its total content, it could have been smaller to encourage greater portability. However it seems the authors intended to mislead buyers with a large but empty volume created by unnecessary large font sizes and ridiculously spaced out lines.
I buy my books and many things from Amazon because I have come to trust the quality of products offered for sale and the quality of the services. That Amazon allowed this mediocre material to be offered on their site as a "book" for a professional course, makes me wonder if my trust is misplaced.

About the Author
Heather Dubrow, John D. Boyd, SJ, Chair in the Poetic Imagination at Fordham University, is the author of six scholarly books, most recently The Challenges of Orpheus: Lyric Poetry and Early Modern England (Johns Hopkins, 2008). Her other publications include the Evans edition of As You Like It, a co-edited collection of essays, the essay on Twentieth-Century Shakespeare criticism in the second edition of The Riverside Shakespeare, and numerous articles on Shakespeare, lyric poetry, and pedagogy. A poet as well as a literary critic, Heather Dubrow has also published a collection of her own poetry, Forms and Hollows (Cherry Grove Collections, 2011) and two chapbooks of verse; she is director of the Poets Out Loud reading series. Her previous academic appointment include the University of Wisconsin-Madison (where she was Tighe-Evans Professor and also John Bascom Professor) and Carleton College.
